IOHK, Cardano’s parent company, is currently developing a suite for the DeFi sector called Marlowe.
In a blog post that started out about the poor performance of traditional financial service providers, the Cardano parent company IOHK announced that it was developing Marlowe. With the DeFi project, you want to democratize finance by simplifying peer-to-peer agreements on a blockchain.
Marlow is designed so that users can create their own financial instruments and make arrangements with anyone they want to interact with. The suite is intended to support developers, dealers, as well as end customers and companies.
Marlowe will provide the developers Marlowe Build and Marlowe Play as well as input from the Marlowe Library. Marlowe Build and Marlow Play enable the development of end-to-end financial smart contracts . With Marlow Build, users can assemble smart contract codes. They can then formally verify and test the smart contracts on Marlowe Play. After the smart contracts have been created and tested, developers can integrate them into the open-source smart contract Marlowe Library.
IOHK also designs a range of products for end-users in the retail sector that allow them to process their own financial agreements on the blockchain. The product will provide access to a variety of financial instrument templates from the Marlowe Library.
Marlow will also provide products to corporate customers. These will provide customers with a customizable suite of features and financial agreements tailored to commercial use cases. Smart contract templates that use Algorithmic Contract Types Unified Standards (Actus) for financial contracts make this possible.
In 2020 IOHK brought out the Marlowe Playground Alpha. However, the end-users will only be able to connect to the network or go online in the course of several steps that are to be completed in the course of 2021. First, the developers will start the prototype of Marlow Run. With this demo version, users can make their own financial agreements and also take a closer look at the decentralized functions without losing real money or real tokens.
Marlowe will be launched on Cardano along with the Goguen upgrade. However, Marlowe is designed in such a way that it can also operate on other blockchains. BeInCrypto already reported that Cardano will introduce smart contracts to support the blockchain with the next Alonzo upgrade. The Alonzo upgrade used the Plutus platform to provide infrastructure and tools for the development of smart contracts.
